Cattle drive – Alpine descent – Alpine departure
Switzerland - Austria - Germany are connected by the Alps and therefore have many common traditions. At the Swiss School of Rome, we always want to delve deeper into these customs that unite us.
The "Almabtrieb" (the descent of the cattle from the mountain pastures) is considered a thank you for the fact that life on the mountain pastures took place without accidents or losses and that the cattle found lush meadows. For this reason, the cows were given elaborate artefacts composed of alpine roses, silver thistles and mountain pines. This special custom has survived to this day in all regions of the Alps and is a joyful celebration everywhere.
The fourth A class of primary school captured, with great talent, this emotional moment in images. You can literally hear the cowbells ringing! ☺
