Cultural exchange
Last week, the second high school class of the Swiss School of Rome held its traditional class exchange in Heerbrugg with the most modern high school in the entire canton, which boasts a triple gymnasium, an astronomical observatory, a science collection and large classrooms.
There were many enriching experiences for our students: the walk from Heerbrugg to St. Margrethen. Margrethen, almost on the border with Austria, during which they visited an underground fortress now converted into a museum, the visit, also in the Rhine valley, of the Stadler Rail factory which produces trains for the European market, the excursion to the climatic station of Heiden, near Lake Constance and the Dunant museum, the founder of the Red Cross, the preparation of traditional Biberli, sweets filled with almonds, a visit to the Würth collection building, which currently houses an exhibition dedicated to water, clouds and wind, and finally, the discovery of our canton of patronage, St. Gallen, with its impressive abbey library, museum and the wing of the former monastery that now houses St. Gallen’s main political bodies.
Evenings in the homes of host families and social events such as Bowling in Widnau or the final refreshment in the Ratsstübli in St. Gallen also represented important moments of growth for the youngsters.
